Auberge Residences and Spa
Floodplain
J.R. Evans Engineering, P.A. provided coastal floodplain analysis and permitting services to facilitate a Conditional Letter of Map Revision (CLOMR) for the Auberge Residences & Spa re-development project. The development project involved two condominium towers with associated amenities, including a restaurant and spa, all located along the Atlantic Ocean in Fort Lauderdale. The project included the structural design and hydraulic analysis of a proposed wave dissipation retaining wall, which replaced an existing wall, for the purpose of withstanding 100 - year wave forces associated with the high risk coastal “VE” flood zone. Through close coordination with FEMA staff, a successful design was developed and the CLOMR resulted in a protected “X” Zone over the property. The coastal analysis also supported the project with providing wave hazard/force data to supplement the structural design. The implementation of the proposed wall provides for additional protection and mitigation of flood risks to the property site and structures. The project also involved obtaining a Coastal Construction Control Line (CCCL) permit through the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP). J.R. Evans Engineering facilitated the complete permit process with FDEP and the subsequent construction progress reports and coordination during construction of the project. J.R. Evans Engineering provided construction observation and inspection services to ensure that the conditions within the CCCL permit were satisfied.
